Camden is one of the most thriving areas for the arts in Europe. It houses many of London’s and the UK’s leading cultural institutions such as the British Museum and the British Library and the world renowed and famous Camden Market. It is also the home of many mid- and small-scale creative organisations such as Hampstead Theatre, Camden Arts Centre and the Roundhouse.
With more of English Heritage’s historic blue plaques than almost any other part of London, Hampstead and Belsize Park have long been the places to live, with everyone from the Romantic Poets to today’s celebrities making their home here.
It’s not hard to see why, Hampstead is characterised by its green spaces – in particular, 800-acre Hampstead Heath with its woodland, ponds and sports grounds. While the Doomsday Book valued Hampstead at just 50 shillings, today it’s worth a lot more. Together with the elegant streets of Belsize Park, this is one of the most affluent and attractive parts of the capital.
Despite the huge variety of people who live here, and despite - or maybe because of - the many thousands of visitors that descend each year, there’s a strong sense of community, all areas are well served by public transport.
